Alkaline baths: information

Why alkaline baths?

There can be many reasons to do something special for our body and skin with alkaline baths.

Reasons for hyperacidity

Are caused by incorrect nutrition, an excess of acid-forming foods from animal proteins, eggs, dairy products, baked goods, carbonated foods and/or. Sweet drinks, coffee, alcohol, sugar, sweeteners, too little sport and exercise, smoking, environmental influences, external/internal stress etc., excess acids absorbed and produced in the body, and a lack of sufficient minerals can lead to acute, chronic, extracellular and/or lead to intracellular hyperacidification. The liver, kidneys and skin can be impaired in their important functions of neutralizing and excreting acids.

Effects of hyperacidity

The intracellular hyperacidification that occurs within the cell can reduce the performance of the cell and the cell organelles. Physical problems and illnesses can result.

The extracellular acidification occurs in the body fluids and the lymph, so that not enough nutrients can be transported into the cell.

If the body becomes hyperacidic, it can be an acute, temporary phenomenon or, if the body's buffer systems, alkaline stores and reserves are gradually used up, it can also lead to chronic hyperacidification, with all its subsequent health problems.

Fatigue, tiredness, lack of concentration, lethargy, exhaustion, headaches, stress, depression, irritability, mood swings, migraines, osteoporosis, joint problems, lumbago, diabetes, gout, rheumatism, dementia, Alzheimer's, gallstones, kidney stones, allergies, obesity, anorexia, Muscle tension, asthma, arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular problems, circulatory problems, susceptibility to infections, weakening of the immune system, inflammation, tumors, pain, tinnitus, cysts, ulcers, deterioration of vision, heartburn, digestive problems, cellulite, weak connective tissue, brittle fingernails , hair and tooth loss, tendon, ligament and capsule tears, acne, wrinkles, neurodermatitis, eczema, skin blemishes, varicose veins, skin aging, dryness and an unpleasant feeling of tightness in the skin, itching, fungal infections, body odor, hair loss, etc. can be typical signs of hyperacidity .

There is a newly discovered organ in the subcutaneous tissue called the interstitium. It consists of a tunnel system that is used to transport substances, according to a 2018 study by researchers at New York University. This tunnel system is filled with fluids and has been discovered in connective tissue throughout the body, under the surface of the skin, in the digestive tract, in the lungs and urinary tract and in the surrounding muscles. In addition to the blood circulation system and the lymphatic system, it forms the third kilometer-long transport organ for waste and pollutants from the body's cells to the excretory organs. The rooms in this tunnel system should always be as clean and empty as possible for micro-supply to the cells. If it is clogged and overloaded, too much acid and metabolic products accumulate in the connective tissue, so that oxygen and nutrients cannot reach the cells. It is therefore assumed that connective tissue plays a significant role in many diseases.

Eliminate hyperacidity

Elimination is a basic principle of all natural medicine worldwide, in humoral pathology, Ayurvedic medicine, spagyrics and traditional Chinese medicine. Elimination is the focus everywhere. The reason for this widespread use is that the various medical traditions from the Chinese to the Indians and Persians to the Greeks all want to cleanse the body fluids and bring them into a healthy balance. The various traditions and types of fasting also aim to activate the body's waste disposal system to eliminate acids, toxins and excess substances.

People have long been aware that baths have a beneficial effect on health and beauty. The baths of Cleopatra, the Roman baths or the baptism rituals of John the Baptist, which probably also included entire baths and went far beyond simply sprinkling a little water over the head. For example, this difference was so important to the Baptists that they named their religious community after it.

Alkaline baths look back on a long tradition. Descriptions of alkaline baths can already be found among the Sumerians:

"I bathed myself with water from a pure pool,
Cleansed me for a long time with soda, made me beautiful with good oil."
(Clay tablet of the "Sumerian Incantations", 3rd millennium BC)

More recently, people talk about balneotherapy or spa therapy and medicinal baths. Different places found that their water had special effects and offered thermal, sulfur, iodine baths, salt pans, mineral springs, mud, mud, moor and fango packs and baths, etc. for recovery and healing.

This gave rise to a healing culture with long-week cures, and to give this a special expression, the word “bath” was often placed in front of the place name to indicate that special baths and spa treatments were available here.

In the seas and oceans, it was quickly discovered that special healing results could be achieved with sea water, with brine, lake, thalasso and thermal baths. Seaside resorts have a slightly alkaline quality with pH values of 7.5 to 8. In order to underline the quality of the seaside resorts, the places that specialize in this are referred to as seaside resorts, spas or, for example, North Sea spas. The Dead Sea offers special sea water, where many people go for salt baths and where you can float on top of the water without having to do anything, the salt concentration there is so intense, with special effects on the skin and body. Water, with its natural ingredients and, above all, minerals, was and is, for the reasons mentioned above, the elixir of life.

Cleanse with alkaline baths

More recently, people have found out more and more that you don't necessarily have to travel to all of these places, as beautiful as that is, to enjoy the spas, but that you can also use the natural ingredients from these places to use them at home to be applied, with special baths in the bathtub.

This led to the realization that, of all the baths, the alkaline baths are particularly effective. Why is that?

Acids that cannot be metabolized normally because they are too aggressive accumulate in the skin layers, with an acidic pH value. The alkaline bath water offers a counterpoint with an alkaline pH value. An osmotic pressure is now created, which equalizes the gradient between the pH values of the skin and the bath water. This creates a suction effect that pulls the excess acids out of the skin. This works particularly well with a pH value of 8.5 to 9. When the acids from the skin meet the bases in the bath water, they are neutralized and rendered harmless.

The skin is the body's largest detoxification organ and a pivotal point or storage place for the organism's more aggressive substances. The alkaline environment in the water stimulates the elimination of acids in a special way and leads to the release of excess acids from the body in a particularly intensive and rapid manner. Acids are increasingly stored in connective tissue, including the connective tissue of the skin. When you bathe, your skin pores are opened. The difference in concentration between alkaline water outside the skin cells and acids inside the cells causes the acids to be naturally drained from the cells. They reach the surface of the skin, pass into alkaline water and are neutralized. For these reasons, alkaline baths are so well suited for “purging” and improving the body fluids and cell environment.

Effects of alkaline baths on the skin

The skin particularly benefits from alkaline baths. Excess acids are removed from and through the skin and deposits are broken down. In addition, the skin is moisturized and itching is relieved. In alkaline baths, the sebaceous glands produce the body's own skin oil. With acid-based cosmetics, with acid preservatives and alcohols, for example with almost all creams and emulsions, the sebaceous glands do not work in this way. That's why cosmetic products often add too much fat from the outside to the skin's self-regulating organ. The skin gets used to it and then keeps asking for oil from the outside. Good alkaline cosmetics prevent this unfavorable mechanism and ensure a younger and more vital appearance of the skin.

Which are good alkaline baths?

Alkaline baths are about removing acids from the body. For this purpose, pH values of 8.5 - 9 are optimal, as is a longer bathing time and additional activation of the skin through occasional brushing.

However, alkaline baths also mean that not only acids are passed out of the body into the bath water, but also that substances from the bath water are better and more easily absorbed into the organism. The technical term for this is so-called transdermal diffusion, which the stronger it is, the more acidic or in this case more basic the water is. An acidic or alkaline environment makes the water more reactive with the body. At a neutral pH value of 7, very little or nothing happens in this direction, similar to how a dull knife cannot penetrate the skin. The more acidic or alkaline water becomes, the better substances are transported from the water into the body.

This is a feature of alkaline baths that has received far too little attention. This can lead to disadvantages if the composition of the basic water is too one-sided, for example if the basic water contains mainly or exclusively sodium salts. Then only sodium is transferred into the body. With more frequent baths in such one-sided compositions, important substances can gradually be washed out of the body and displaced. The body and nature usually function in balances that arise and are either beneficial or have deficits. Sodium competes with its antagonists potassium, magnesium and calcium. If too much sodium is consumed, the other three quantitative elements are gradually replaced by sodium and deficits in these important quantitative elements arise. This applies to many substances, but particularly and sensitively to all minerals and trace elements, which are always in balance with one another and cannot tolerate one-sidedness.

Therefore, alkaline baths should not consist of one-sided compositions, but rather of the broadest possible spectrum of balanced ingredients in optimal equilibrium. This gives the body an optimal supply of substances/tools, which it can then optimally outsource or absorb and use to create beneficial balances.

Transdermal diffusion

In addition, alkaline baths can neutralize acids very well. However, there are many other harmful substances and poisons in the body that require much more complex instruments so that they can be rendered harmless and removed from the organism. This happens primarily through a corresponding enrichment of the organism with their antagonists and through successful transdermal diffusion, which in good alkaline baths represent a tool that is at least as important as the alkaline properties, and then optimally combine the two, the alkaline and the transdermal mechanisms of action.

LA VAGUE Sels de Bain is a full-spectrum bath salt with finely balanced, beneficial balances between the many ingredients, so that no deficits can arise through the baths and, on the other hand, existing deficits can be compensated for/filled up by the body. In addition, the composition of the ingredients enables transdermal diffusion optimally, so that the important exchange between excess substances for storage / elimination and deficient substances for storage / introduction can take place as extensively and efficiently as possible.
